Compact, reliable sextant for yacht navigation
Built for space-conscious sailors, this compact marine sextant offers precision optics, graded filters and accessories – no electronics required.
The Freiberger Yacht Sextant is a precision optical instrument designed specifically for yachtsmen and small-craft navigators. With a compact and lightweight construction, it offers all the advantages of traditional celestial navigation in a form tailored for limited onboard space.
The frame is made from a light yet rigid aluminium alloy that is both corrosion-resistant and well-balanced in hand. A clear view is ensured by large, high-quality horizon and index mirrors, tested for optical flatness and parallelism. The optical system includes a front-focusing telescope with 2.4x magnification and a 25 mm aperture. The rubber eyepiece sits comfortably against the face and remains stable during adjustment.
Brightness control is managed through swing-in graded filters – three on the index mirror and two on the horizon mirror – designed to offer equal luminosity of both images. These graded shades protect the eye while supporting accurate angle readings.
This sextant is a dependable navigation aid that operates without electronic input, unaffected by electromagnetic interference. It is inexpensive to run, straightforward to use, and engineered for longevity.
