Britannic: Titanic's Tragic Twin
Uncover the mysteries of this fascinating ship
Exploring the Britannic delves into the captivating story of the Titanic's lesser-known twin, from her construction and launch to her tragic sinking and eventual rediscovery.
Uncover the Mysteries of a Lost Ship
Launched in 1914, the Britannic was designed to surpass her ill-fated sister in every way. However, her intended purpose as a luxury liner was cut short by the First World War. Requisitioned as a hospital ship, she met a tragic end in 1916 when she struck a mine in the Aegean Sea.
This book unravels the mysteries surrounding the Britannic, including:
- Her construction and launch.
- Her wartime service as a hospital ship.
- The circumstances of her sinking.
- The discovery of her wreck by Jacques Cousteau.
- The ongoing exploration and preservation efforts.
Exclusive Insights
Exploring the Britannic features remarkable sonar scans, never-before-seen photographs of the wreck, and fold-out sections of the original Harland & Wolff ship plans. Author Simon Mills, who owns the wreck of the Britannic, provides unique insights into the ship's history and the challenges of exploring and preserving her legacy.
If you're fascinated by maritime history, particularly the story of the Titanic, Exploring the Britannic offers a compelling and richly illustrated account of her tragic twin.
