A Century of Cruising in Colour

A vibrant pictorial history of cruise ships from the 1920s to today, showcasing 150 photographs and classic vessels curated by William H. Miller.

100 Years of Cruise Ships in Colour presents a striking visual history of ocean travel, charting the evolution of cruising from the 1920s to the present day.

Across 150 richly coloured photographs, maritime historian William H. Miller captures a century of cruising – from the elegant seasonal liners of the interwar years to the modern giants of today’s global cruise industry. The collection features early favourites such as Franconia, Reliance, Nieuw Amsterdam and Normandie, alongside post-war icons including Caronia, Queen of Bermuda, Reina Del Mar and Queen Elizabeth 2. It concludes with the twenty-first-century fleet, from Queen Mary 2 to Allure of the Seas and Viking Star.

Through each decade, Miller illustrates how ships transformed from simple passenger liners into floating resorts – symbols of comfort, leisure and adventure on the high seas.
