It deals with what the sailing directions leave out: the history, culture, scenery, geology, wildlife, economy and monuments of the coast, with information on places to visit ashore and anecdotes from Ireland's nautical past.

About the authors

Norman Kean has written the ICC Sailing Directions since 2005. A Yachtmaster Offshore and Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation, he has visited every harbour and anchorage described in the guide. His knowledge is sought by the UK Hydrographic Office, and he writes regularly for Yachting Monthly.

Mike Balmforth was a yachting journalist, President of British Marine Federation Scotland and an advocate for recreational boating. He worked in yacht broking, marine equipment distribution and journalism, and helped establish the Cross Party Group on Recreational Boating & Marine Tourism in the Scottish Parliament.
