Build Practical and Advanced Navigation Skills

Clear methods, plots and templates support advanced skills for bridge procedures, radar, celestial, and ECDIS – ideal for mates, masters and senior officers.

Navigation Advanced for Mates/Masters – Second Edition is a comprehensive guide to developing advanced navigational skills, tailored for senior navigation officers, Masters, and aspiring junior officers. Designed for both self-study and onboard reference, the book presents clear, practical methods supported by worked examples, plots, templates and exercises.

Topics include regulatory requirements, passage planning, radar and celestial navigation, ECDIS, tides, marine communications, search and rescue, and operations near offshore installations. Emphasis is placed on applying navigational techniques efficiently and safely in real-world situations, helping watchkeepers manage high workloads while maintaining accuracy and clarity in their decision-making.

The publication addresses the ongoing challenge of maintaining competence in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment. It promotes a deep understanding of methods rather than just procedures, making it a valuable tool for both daily operations and long-term career progression.
