Understanding Weather at Sea
Reeds Weather Handbook is an essential pocket-sized primer that equips sailors and outdoor enthusiasts with the knowledge to read and predict the weather.
Weather determines when we sail, where we sail to – and whether we arrive safely. This revised third edition provides the tools to interpret and manage a wide range of conditions, whether for a short coastal trip or a longer offshore passage.
Each topic is clearly explained, covering:
- Using and evaluating forecasts
 - Coastal effects such as depressions, fronts and isobars
 - Waves and swell
 - Weather lore and sky watching

With advances in meteorology and forecasting technology, this new edition includes updated material on computer weather models, satellite communications, online forecasts, and climate change. Illustrated with clear diagrams and photographs, it serves as a concise aide-memoire for skippers and crew, and an invaluable study guide for Day Skipper and Yachtmaster students.
