Athens, the Cyclades and the Sporades
Pilotage, plans and photographs for the western Aegean, with notes on getting around, places to visit ashore and Greek history.
Rod and Lucinda Heikell’s West Aegean covers the coasts and islands near Athens, the adjacent islands of the Cyclades and the eastern Peloponnisos to Monemvasia. It also covers the mainland coast from Sounion to Volos, the adjacent coast of Evia, and the Northern Sporades, including Skíathos and Skópelos.
It is a companion to Greek Waters Pilot and gives detail on places that book mentions only briefly. It is particularly useful for charterers, flotilla sailors and others based in the area, with information on getting around, places to visit ashore, and background ranging from food and wine to Greece’s classical past and ancient sites.
The pilotage notes are supported by plans and photographs, many of them taken by Lu Heikell.
About the authors
Rod and Lucinda Heikell write guides to the coasts and islands of the Mediterranean. Rod has spent nearly 40 years cruising these waters. Lu joined him as crew on a passage from the Azores to Gibraltar in 1999, and they have worked on books together for over twenty years. They live on the Isle of Wight when not aboard Skylax, their 46ft Warwick-designed New Zealand boat.
Their Imray pilot books and almanacs include Greek Waters Pilot, Italian Waters Pilot, Turkish Waters and Cyprus Pilot, Mediterranean France and Corsica Pilot, Ionian, West Aegean, East Aegean and The Mediterranean Almanac (as editors).
