A Triangle with a Pencil Handle
Navigation triangle with a protractor scale and handle
A navigation triangle with 7¾-inch (19.7 cm) sides and an 11-inch (27.9 cm) hypotenuse, in clear vinylite with red and black markings, a protractor scale and a black handle that holds a pencil. Sold singly: most navigators use a pair. Limited lifetime warranty.
How to use a pair of triangles
Lay one triangle's edge along the course or bearing, put the second against it, and slide the first along the second to carry the line across the chart, changing hands to go further. Set against a meridian, the protractor scale lays off a bearing without a compass rose, and the right angle helps with lines of position.
About Weems & Plath
