Solid Brass Arms and Handles
15-inch acrylic parallel rule with solid brass arms
A 15-inch (38.1 cm) parallel rule with solid brass arms and handles, the traditional look at the chart table. Milled acrylic with bevelled edges, with a protractor scale (Captain Field pattern) along the edge for taking a bearing from any meridian when there is no compass rose nearby. At 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide it is half an inch wider than the 15-inch rule with aluminium arms. It comes in a protective plastic sleeve, with a limited lifetime warranty.
An occasional polish with a soft cloth keeps the brass bright.
How to use a parallel rule
Lay one edge along the course or bearing, hold it down, and move the other edge across the chart; then hold that edge and bring up the first. Walked like this, the rule carries the line to a compass rose or a position without losing its direction.
