Aden to Suez

Third edition with new Imray plans, more precise depictions of remote coasts from satellite imagery, and advice on preparing the boat.

The third edition of Red Sea Pilot, revised by Elaine Morgan and Stephen Davies, covers the whole Red Sea from Aden to Suez and its canal.

What’s in this edition

The previous edition dates from the early 2000s. Satellite imagery has since allowed far more precise depictions of remote coasts, harbours and anchorages, and the book has new Imray plans and new photographs. A dedicated section covers preparing a boat for conditions in the Red Sea.

About the authors

Stephen Davies served in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines before lecturing at the University of Hong Kong, where Elaine Morgan worked as a librarian. Years of racing from Hong Kong to the Philippines led to a 50,000-mile cruise through Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific to Europe, which produced Red Sea Pilot and the two volumes of the Cruising Guide to South East Asia, all published by Imray.

They later sailed back down the Red Sea to Singapore, and Stephen became the first director of the Hong Kong Maritime Museum. They now live by the River Dee in Chester.

About Imray

Imray has published nautical information for recreational and professional mariners since the mid-18th century. It is now part of FB Imray, a joint venture with the Austrian cartographers freytag & berndt, and is recognised by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency as a chart producer.
