Swedish to Russian Borders
Skagerrak round the North Cape to the Russian border, with Lofoten, Vesterålen, Svalbard and Jan Mayen. Fourth edition, revised plans.
This guide covers the coast of Norway from the Swedish border in the Skagerrak north around the North Cape to the Russian border. It includes the Lofoten and Vesterålen islands, the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard and the remote volcanic island of Jan Mayen.
Judy Lomax still sails this coast and uses contacts built up over more than 30 years to follow changes in the region. This fourth edition brings numerous updates and more detail for some areas, such as the Oslo Fjord and the Telemark Canal, with many new photographs and revised Imray plans throughout.
It is written for private yachts and is also used aboard the many ships cruising the region.
About the author
Judy Lomax started sailing dinghies in her teens. Between 1989 and 2014 she and her husband David spent 16 summers in Norway aboard Cloud Walker, the 1985 Beneteau First 345 they owned from new, sailing between the Swedish and Russian borders and to Svalbard (which they circumnavigated in 2013) and Jan Mayen. She continues to sail Norwegian waters each summer, researching and updating as she goes.
Praise for Norway
“Any yachtsman even contemplating a visit to this loveliest of cruising areas could be considered negligent if he did not buy this book.”
– RHR, Cruising
“For anyone sailing in Norwegian waters this book is an absolute must. It is the perfect example of a truly excellent pilot from which practically nothing can be found missing.”
– Christine Holroyd, Cruising Association magazine
About the Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation
Imray has worked with the Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation since 1985. The Foundation is a charity that collects and researches pilotage, navigation and weather information for small craft, including from remote areas where other sources are scarce or non-existent. Imray draws the cartography, often from very little official survey data, and produces the book.
About Imray
Imray has published nautical information for recreational and professional mariners since the mid-18th century. It is now part of FB Imray, a joint venture with the Austrian cartographers freytag & berndt, and is recognised by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency as a chart producer.
