Nieuwpoort to the German Border
Coastal ports, the mast-up routes through the Netherlands, inland routes and the IJsselmeer, Markermeer and Randmeren. First edition.
Cruising Guide to the Netherlands and Belgium is a new first edition from the Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation. It builds on Brian Navin’s guide to cruising the Netherlands by the fixed mast routes, and gives pilotage for the coastal ports and the mast-up routes through the Netherlands.
Coverage runs from Nieuwpoort in Belgium through the Rhine–Maas–Schelde Delta, up the Dutch coast and into the Waddenzee to the German border. A selection of inland routes covers the rivers and canals of North and South Holland, Friesland and Groningen, and the marinas, ports and waterways of the IJsselmeer, Markermeer and Randmeren complete the book.
The authors cover the practicalities, culture and history of both countries. The guide is illustrated with photographs and Imray chartlets.
About the authors
Kieran Flatt is a writer, editor and journalist who works mainly on boats and sailing. He owns a 28ft Holman Twister, Cleaver II, based near Amsterdam, and has cruised widely between the Baltic and Biscay over the last 20 years.
Hilary Keatinge grew up in Dun Laoghaire harbour. She and her husband Bill bought their first cruising boat, a Tartan 27, in Jamaica in 1970, then raced and cruised in Australia and for 11 years in Dutch waters. A teacher and journalist, she wrote Ijsselmeer Harbours (1989) and The Flavour of Holland (1994), compiled a history of the Irish Cruising Club 1979–2004, and is co-author of Atlantic Islands.
About the Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation
Imray has worked with the Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation since 1985. The Foundation is a charity that collects and researches pilotage, navigation and weather information for small craft, including from remote areas where other sources are scarce or non-existent. Imray draws the cartography, often from very little official survey data, and produces the book.
About Imray
Imray has published nautical information for recreational and professional mariners since the mid-18th century. It is now part of FB Imray, a joint venture with the Austrian cartographers freytag & berndt, and is recognised by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency as a chart producer.
