About the Authors
Dr Spike Briggs MD FRCA CEng is a consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia. A lifelong sailor, he raced around the world in 1996 and has been involved in medical support for offshore and round-the-world yacht races for nearly three decades. He advises the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and is a member of the Medical Commission for World Sailing. He is also Managing Director of Medical Support Offshore, which provides medical kits, training, and telemedical support for seafarers, including some of the world’s top sailors.
Dr Campbell Mackenzie RD* BA FRCP(Edin) AFOM was a consultant renal and intensive care physician and a Surgeon Commander in the Royal Naval Reserve. An RYA Ocean Yachtmaster and Cape Horner, he was an instructor, examiner, and advisor to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency on medical aspects of sailing.
