Monsters from the Deep in Myth and Literature
The Book of Sea Monsters: Leviathans of Literature is a richly illustrated literary deep dive into the world of sea creatures, both imagined and feared. From ancient myths to Gothic horror, this absorbing anthology charts humanity’s long and tangled relationship with monstrous beings from the deep.
Through excerpts from epic poems, scientific curiosities, and classic literature – from Beowulf and Moby-Dick to Lovecraft and Jules Verne – Dr Prema Arasu explores how sea monsters have reflected our greatest fears, from natural disasters and foreign invaders to the unknown recesses of our own minds.
Accompanied by lavish artwork and historical engravings, this is a voyage through centuries of myth and imagination, showcasing the monstrous in all its tentacled, gluttonous, sublime glory.
