Antarctica’s Story Told Through 100 Remarkable Artefacts

A visual and insightful history of the White Continent – from heroics and science to symbolism and survival – told through rare and extraordinary objects.

Antarctica: A History in 100 Objects tells the extraordinary story of the southernmost continent through 100 evocative artefacts sourced from collections around the world. From Shackleton’s lifeboat to a Soviet bust of Lenin, Inuit snow goggles to ice cores preserving 800,000 years of climate history, each object reveals a unique facet of our evolving relationship with the White Continent.

Published to mark the 250th anniversary of James Cook’s crossing into the Antarctic Circle, this beautifully illustrated book is both a compelling visual history and a powerful reflection on exploration, science, and climate change. Together, the objects form a richly textured narrative of human presence in Antarctica – its triumphs, absurdities, and environmental significance.
