About the Authors

Jane Cumberlidge has cruised extensively from the Bay of Biscay to the Channel Islands and West Country. A writer, editor and photographer, she has spent 25 years producing nautical books and articles, and maintains an extensive library of maritime images.

Dick Durham began sailing at 12 and has cruised from Norway to Gibraltar. He has sailed with Sir Robin Knox-Johnston aboard Suhaili, taken part in the America’s Cup Jubilee, and authored six sailing books.

Norman Kean has sailed the Irish coast since 1980 and has edited the ICC Sailing Directions since 2005. His deep local knowledge makes him a respected voice on Irish pilotage.

Jonty Pearce, a lifelong yachtsman and retired GP, keeps his Southerly 105 ketch Aurial in Milford Haven and regularly sails with his wife, Carol. He holds the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore qualification.

Dag Pike, a former merchant captain and RNLI lifeboat tester, became a renowned powerboat navigator, including guiding Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic Challenger on its record-breaking transatlantic run. He is an internationally recognised maritime journalist and author.
