Between Rocks and Cold Places
Forget quiet vicarage life; meet Bob Shepton, a late-70s Church of England minister who prefers the challenges of the Arctic and the thrill of scaling uncharted peaks. This is a man who trades tea parties for icebergs and sermons for daring expeditions.
Addicted to Adventure plunges you straight into the action, opening with a heart-stopping account of the fire that consumed Bob's yacht while trapped in the Greenland ice. It's a story of survival and resilience that sets the stage for a life less ordinary.
But this book is more than just adrenaline-fueled exploits. It's a journey through Bob's remarkable life, starting with his childhood on a Malaysian rubber plantation. Experience the upheaval of World War II, the loss of his father at the hands of the Japanese, and his return to England. Follow his path through boarding school, the Royal Marines, and ultimately, his calling to the church.
And what adventures await! Join Bob as he:
- Sails around the world with a group of schoolboys.
- Suffers a dismasting off the Falklands.
- Finds himself trapped in the unforgiving grip of Arctic ice.
- Climbs mountains accessible only from iceberg-strewn water and with only sketchy maps available.
Addicted to Adventure is a gripping tale in the spirit of legendary adventurers like HW Tilman, Ranulph Fiennes, Chris Bonington, and Robin Knox-Johnston. It's a story of daring-do, resilience, and a life lived on the edge.
Praise for Addicted to Adventure
