This chartwork instruments kit has been designed specifically for Merchant Navy cadets based on feedback from members of OfficerCadet.com. Our chartwork kit is made up of three essential tools which every deck cadet will need during training – parallel rules, brass dividers and brass pencil compass. We’ve bundled them all together and taken over 10% off the normal price.
You’ll get a set of quality Weems & Plath parallel rules. Navigational equipment should always be top quality, and Weems & Plath is one of the most respected brands in the navigational instruments business. The blades are a strong, sturdy acrylic with bevelled edges. The knobs, pivot pins and link bars are aluminium, with cork feet to ensure no slipping and sliding. These 24″ rules (610mm) will leave you smug as you draw lines that your classmates could only dream of. They’re great for the classroom, easy to carry around and equally at home in the chartroom or on the bridge.
You’ll get a nice weighty 8″ Charles Smith & Reddish brass pencil compass. It’s a sad fact of life that the cheap compass you bought from the supermarket will leave you crying in despair with a sheet full of circles which don’t quite “meet up”. It’s also a fact that the compass in your maths set won’t last anywhere near as long or draw circles quite as big as this glorious example of compass superiority. Made from high quality, weighty and durable brass, our pencil compass will draw tiny circles, huge circles and everything in between.
Finally, you can measure distances in style with a set of 8″ Blundell Harling brass dividers. Made from highly polished brass with stainless steel tips, these dividers will help you to look the part as you pose thoughtfully over a chart. They’re also really good for actually doing chartwork with!
We know it’s hard to know what to buy before you start at college, and we can take the pain of those decisions away. We’ve been there, got the t-shirt, and we know what you need and what you don’t. So let us sort you out with some top quality kit!
